Construction of this large, low cost mining operation began in the June Quarter 2011. More than three billion tonnes of high grade ore has been discovered so far at the Solomon Hub, 120 kilometres to the west of the Chichester Hub, and the operation will take advantage of the low strip ratios, conventional mining methods and Fortescue’s existing integrated supply chain.
Centrals executed the works in partnership with Cimeco and provided project management, labour and plant as part of an integrated alliance to construct the civil and concrete scope for the Ore Processing Facilities and three iron ore crushers at FMG’s Solomon Hub project.
The scope of work included earthworks, formwork, reinforcing steel, approximately 35,000m3 concrete placement to the CID and BID plant, 9,000m3 concrete placement to crusher foundations and associated equipment. Also included the construction of RE walls and backfill activities.
