General upgrades, refurbishment and new construction to BHP Refurbishment Facility conducted over three phases.

The scope of work consisted of several phases:

Phase 1: Power Upgrade

Power Upgrade works were carried out at two site locations; Welshpool Intake Substation adjacent to front access gate and Transformer compound.

  • Demolition scope comprises of decommissioning, demolishing and removal all of the existing pipework, kerbing and retaining walls within the footprint of the intake substation.
  • Construction scope comprises of fabrication/procurement and construction of new transformer compound and PDP Platform, underground cable/services installation and cable ladder supports.
  • Electrical scope comprises of disconnect and make safe the power supply for the property in preparation for the civil and earthworks. Supply, install and terminate of LV and HV cables, transformers, control panels, RMU’s, earth grids, HV Power cables, HV termination kits, lighting poles, HV and LV Isolations, switching and re-energisations, Testing and commissioning.

Phase 2: Paint and Wash

Centrals SOW comprised of demolition, manufacture, supply, construction, installation, commissioning and testing works for the new Paint and Wash Facility. The Paint and Wash Facility comprises a paint booth, a grit blast and wash-down bay for the repainting of parts associated with Caterpillar 793 mining trucks to provide access for inspection and maintenance activities.

Phase 3: Fire Ware Upgrade

Centrals SOW comprised of the design, fabrication, supply, construction, installation commissioning, testing and decommissioning works for the Fire Water System Upgrade with additional fire pumps and two additional storage tanks. The works also involved refurbishing the existing fire hydrant systems.
