Centrals was contracted to carry out a re-development of Lot 53 (25) Ocean Drive in North Coogee, WA including extensive demolition, earthworks, retaining walls and roadworks. The site was original intended to accommodate two 6 storey apartment towers with inground works already commenced before the project was put on hold in 2010.

The scope of work including the provision of all labour, plant and materials to complete the demolition, engineering and construction works to re-develop the site to accommodate 24 survey strata lots including access roadways, parking and public open space. Specific activities included:

  • Demolition of existing below ground carpark structural including suspending roof slab, columns, ground slab and footings
  • Excavate and removal of unsuitable materials
  • Import, place and compact more than 35,000m2 of engineered fill materials
  • Design and construct more than 500m3 of concrete footings and retaining walls varying from 1.6m to 2.4m in height
  • Extensive architectural finishes including Acretex and Limestone renders, granite stone cladding and limestone capping stone
  • Installation of all inground services including power, communications, potable water, grey water, stormwater, sewer and reticulation systems
  • Design and construct a vibration control barrier trench approximately 135m long, 200m wide and 4.2m deep to protect the site from the vibrations generated by a nearby railline
  • Import place and compact select fill material for sub-grade
  • Import place and compact granular fill materials for sub-base and base course layers
  • Installation of a road drainage network incorporating interconnection 2400 soakwells and a series of stormwater pits with sediment traps linked to a 165kl soakwell with 1 in 50 year overflow
  • More than 600lm of flush, mountable and semi-mountable concrete kerbing
  • Approx 550m2 of 60mm block paving to carparking and road transitions
  • Circa 2000m2 of 40mm asphalt to roadways
  • Complete material testing and compaction testing to all fill materials
  • All works completed to MRWA and City of Cockburn standards

The project was carried out with a personnel structure of project manager, supervisor, eight direct workforce and various sub-contractors.
